Berlin (Germany)

BSR (Berliner Stadtreinigung) processes approximately 60 000 tonnes per year of organic waste from Berlin households in a biogas plant. The biogas produced is cleaned, processed, concentrated and fed into the city gas network as biomethane.

A total of 150 biogas-powered refuse collection vehicles, about half of the BSR fleet collecting approximately 60 % of the city’s MSW, are refuelled from this network via gas stations in three BSR depots. As a result, annual savings of around 2.5 million litres of diesel are achieved (BSR, 2015a).
